Rules to Live By
Think before you commit.
Don’t say yes or no over the phone. Tell the person you’ll get back to them. If it’s urgent, get back to them in 5 minutes. Take a moment, without distraction, to think.
Make decisions when you’re in the right headspace. If you are hungry, angry, lonely or tired (HALT), then don’t make a decision. Take time out to get into the right space to think clearly.
Ask questions. If you think you’re right, you’re wrong. Don’t aim to be right, aim to find the best outcome.
Identify people who you’d like to emulate. Who embodies the spirit of a trait or characteristic you value? Learn from that person. Different people embody different traits, make them your personal board of directors and strive to sit on that board alongside them.
Use your personal board of directors to help guide your decisions. Ask yourself, if my board were standing here watching, would I make the same decision?
